Staff Auditor (Contract to Hire)

Our client, an independent institution of higher and professional education, is looking for a Staff Auditor to support their Chief Audit Executive in an audit of their different locations.  This role is for entry to junior level candidates with experience from university/college or financial institutions, does not have to come from a traditional audit or accounting background.

This role can be 100% remote, however, the ability to work west coast or central time zones is preferred. The role will have a duration of 3 months with the possibility of extension or conversion. 

Responsibilities 
  • Manage and perform end to end audit cycle and support design of annual audit program; develop and design the exceptions process and procedures to be incorporated into audit system and programs utilized across departments. 
  • Administer audit risk and control matrix, design test steps, execute on testing, document and socialize audit exceptions, evaluate and recommend decisions based on audit exceptions and department action plans. 
  • Collaborate with others to help resolve audit exceptions, progress issues and concerns, interpret policies, and mediate complex and sensitive issues.
  • Help with evaluating, recommending program improvements, ex. facilitate discussions on audit exceptions, department exceptions, documentation of remediation plans and department actions. 
  • Analyze, enter, and validate exception data for all general education requirements.
  • Provide guidance and counsel, oversee and develop a wide range of programs and services, analyze effectiveness, and make recommendations for future programs.
  • Support with reconciling complex issues; analyze diverse transactions from multiple sources.
  • Summarize data from multiple university data sources, prepare, manage, and create reports and presentations relating to academic exceptions.
  • Identify and evaluate audit data outcomes; manage the implementation and development of recommendations, changes to technology, systems, processes, etc.
  • Serve as an audit subject matter expert to students and other departments; represent units/departments.
  • Lead, create and contribute to development of business practices and organizational change to improve processes and workflow.
  • Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

Qualifications
  • A bachelor’s degree and three years of relevant experience, or a combination of education and relevant experience (nice to have not required)
  • Strong preference for audit/accounting or general experience in university/colleges or financial services 
  • Strong communication skills to clearly and effectively communicate information to internal and external audiences, client groups, and management.
  • Advanced analysis and problem-solving skills
  • Advanced computer skills, including experience with Microsoft Office Suite
  • Advanced customer service skills
  • Relevant computer systems/technology experience
  • Understanding of financial transactions
  • Ability to ensure and apply compliance with legal, financial, and university policies and external regulations.
