Job Description
COMPANY DESCRIPTION: Our client's focus has been multifamily investing. They seek opportunities where they can improve performance, generate distributable cash flow, protect investor principal, and achieve appreciation.
LOCATION: San Francisco, CA. The team is in the office 3 days a week.
POSITION SUMMARY: The primary purpose of the Fund Accountant position is to assist the accounting team in maintaining accurate books, assist with the preparation of financial reports and manage day-to-day financial operations in accordance with the accounting policies and procedures.
- Assist with the preparation and review of quarterly and annual financial statements and other regulatory filings.
- Maintain journal entries, bank and general ledger reconciliations for partnership and fund investments and monthly closes.
- Process monthly close process, including performing reviews and preparing reconciliations.
- Record and reconcile investor capital activity and investment entity activity.
- Prepare carried interest allocations based on partnership agreements and ownership structure.
- Assist with reporting to strategic investors in certain partnership entities.
- Research and identify exceptions and problems affecting accounting records, communicate them to management, and provide corrective actions.
- Work with investor relations team to address investor inquiries or requests and ensure investor portal is up to date regarding capital contributions and distributions and assist team in maintaining investment records among accounting and investor portal systems.
- Prepare investment funding requests, wires, and internal transfers, in a timely manner.
- Maintain organized and thorough accounting documentation.
- Respond to internal inquiries in a timely fashion and prepare ad-hoc reports requested by management/other departments.
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting is required from an accredited four-year college or university.
- A minimum of 1 year of experience in Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (US GAAP) basis accounting is required.
- Ability to apply US GAAP required.
- A minimum of 1 year of experience working with Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook is required.
- Fund experience preferred.
- Industry experience in real estate investments or other alternative investments preferred
- Public accounting experience or CPA candidate preferred
- Working experience with Yardi desired.
- Prior working experience in real estate accounting desired.
- Proactive and able to work in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to multitask and collaborate effectively
- Ability to work independently and to meet deadlines timely, accurately, and consistently.
- Detail-oriented.
- Strong analytical, written, and verbal communication skills.
CANDIDATE BACKGROUND: 1-3 years of experience, with a preference for experience in the asset management or real estate industry. They are very willing to train those without this background though.
Determining compensation for this role (and others) at Vaco depends upon a wide array of factors including but not limited to the individual’s skill sets, experience and training, licensure and certifications, office location and other geographic considerations, as well as other business and organizational needs. With that said, as required by local law, Vaco believes that the following salary range reasonably estimates the base compensation for an individual hired into this position in geographies that require salary range disclosure:$80,000-$120,000. The individual may also be eligible for discretionary bonuses.
