Our client is an investment adviser located in Menlo Park, CA with over $5Bn in AUM across private equity, hedge fund, and fund of funds.
This role will primarily be involved in fund accounting and management company reporting; however, this person will be exposed to valuations and trade operations from day one. There is also complex compliance work that this person will be exposed to.
After only three years in business, the firm has gone through tremendous growth (over $5Bn in AUM). This is a fantastic opportunity to join a high-growth fund and gain exposure to private equity, hedge fund, and fund of funds investments while having the security of being backed by a well-funded family office.
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
Fund Accounting:
• Review daily cash and position reconciliations from the fund administrator and brokerage accounts. Assist in resolving issues.
• Track cash by investor share class, reconcile vs internal systems and fund administrator.
• Reconcile vendor invoices to fund budget and accruals. Propose adjustments as needed.
• Confirm payment/wire instructions for capital calls, expenses, and investments.
• Prepare fund expenses for payment.
• Assist with allocating expenses to various funds or share classes.
• Update fund P&L and exposures on a weekly basis for internal reporting. Reconcile internal systems vs fund administrator.
• Assist with preparation of monthly performance package.
• Review capital call and management fee calculations.
• Review investment subscription documentation provided by the fund custodian.
• Create daily trade file.
• Assist in review of fund NAV, including reconciling fund P&L, confirming allocation methodologies, verifying incentive allocations, if any, and reviewing investor capital statements.
• Assist with compliance filings, including 13F, 13H, Form PF, Form ADV.
• Liaise with accountants and fund administrator on annual fund audit and tax preparation.
• Review and track daily investment valuations and transactions.
• Assist with prospect and existing investor requests.
Management Company:
• Reconcile cash daily to company bank accounts.
• Post invoices into accounting system (Quickbooks) and prepare payments. Confirm invoice amounts to vendor contracts.
• Reconcile corporate credit card activity to Quickbooks.
• Confirm payment instructions with vendors.
• Perform monthly bank reconciliation.
• Review all entries in Quickbooks for accuracy, including the expense and class category used.
QUALIFICATIONS:
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related fields.
• 1-3 years of prior experience working for an asset management firm (private equity, hedge fund, fund of funds).
• Prior experience in a Big 4 accounting firm performing audits or tax compliance in financial sector is highly preferred.
• CPA or working on obtaining a CPA is a plus.
Skills & Abilities
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Strong word processing skills, including strong knowledge of MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
• Ability to take initiative, work independently, and actively participate in group meetings.
• Ability to plan workflow and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
• Deep commitment to excellence, including meeting deadlines and completing tasks with a high degree of accuracy, dependability, and attention to detail.
• Strong organization skills, attention to detail and prioritization capabilities.
• Self-motivator who thrives working in a small team environment.
Determining compensation for this role (and others) at Vaco depends upon a wide array of factors including but not limited to the individual’s skill sets, experience and training, licensure and certifications, office location and other geographic considerations, as well as other business and organizational needs. With that said, as required by local law, Vaco believes that the following salary range reasonably estimates the base compensation for an individual hired into this position in geographies that require salary range disclosure: $85,000-$140,000. The individual may also be eligible for discretionary bonuses.
