Job Description
Opportunity:
The Manager, Corporate Accounting is a highly visible position that plays a critical role in achieving our overall objective of delivering best-in-class financial reporting and building a best-in-class finance department. The Corporate Accounting team drives our close process with our domestic and international teams and is responsible for developing and executing long-terms plans for how to take our accounting operations to the next level.

The Company’s operations have grown significantly over the past several years, and with it, the level of complexity our accounting organization is facing. This role offers a great opportunity to work closely with a wide range of the Company’s domestic and international accounting, FP&A, and tax groups to implement the infrastructure needed to scale the Company’s systems and financial reporting processes effectively and efficiently.

Primary Function of Position:
This position will be responsible for establishing and overseeing execution of the worldwide month-end close processes and other key areas handled by the Corporate Accounting team. Main objectives are 1) Process Optimization (optimize the close process through standardization, simplification, and automation. 2) Master Data Governance (ensure the uniformity, accuracy, stewardship, semantic consistency, and accountability of the shared master data). 3 Financial Reporting Governance (collaborate cross-functionally to ensure needs are met for effective decision making needed for internal reviews as well as external SEC and other filings) 4) Oversee Accounting Methodologies (ensure methodology used across the Company complies with Intuitive policies and US GAAP with adequate internal controls).

The Corporate Accounting team is the primary owner of our accounting policies, general ledger, master data, generation of our financial statements, implementation and execution of our intercompany transactions, consolidations, and eliminations. The Corporate Accounting team further serves as advisors to the finance department at large to ensure that we have efficient and effective processes in place to record, compile, and report all transactions, including accruals and other close related processes performed by our global finance teams. 

Given the demands on the Corporate Accounting team, the Manager, Corporate Accounting will need to have strong communication, strong accounting acumen, along with having the leadership and project management skills necessary to lead and execute projects. The ability to analyze problem, think critically to plan and execute effectively while collaborating across teams and locations will be key to success in this role.

Role and Responsibilities:
  • Lead the Corporate Accounting team implementing strong processes, systems, and procedures to drive efficiencies and high-quality financial reporting.
  • Understand the company’s operating model and objectives and how they translate into the need for efficient, standardized, scalable business processes, organizational structures, and operations.
  • Analyze existing processes, including documentation of existing and future flows. Define and recommend roadmap for process improvement initiatives.
  • Lead the design and execution of “to-be” processes; Work with IT and SME’s to collect, define and implement and re-design core processes – define and align business requirements with other business users.  Lead testing scope, review results of user acceptance testing, and create implementation plan
  • Draft policies, guidelines, desktop procedures, and work instructions to support successful implementation of new projects or enhancements.
  • Present project updates to management or cross functional teams to enable project alignment.
  • Collaborate cross functionally with other teams (IT, finance, etc.) in company-wide system and process implementation projects.  Provide system change requirements, conduct system change blueprint, IT testing, and resolve any issues related to the projects. Provide clear communication to the implementation team on critical path, potential areas of risk related to the accounting, and project status.
  • Responsible, together with the Corporate Accounting department ensure that we meet our month-end/quarter-end close and deadlines. Understand dependencies and drive to optimize the close timeline.
  • Overseeing execution of the worldwide month-end close processes and other key areas handled by the Corporate Accounting team
  • Ensure compliance with corporate accounting policies, procedures, and controls for assigned areas.
  • As needed, perform research on accounting guidance for accurate financial reporting and develop necessary accounting policies and SOP to have a scalable solution.
  • Assist with other ad-hoc projects

Qualifications
Skills/Job Requirements:
  • Minimum Bachelor's Degree is Accounting/Finance
  • Minimum 8+ years of combined experience in public accounting and corporate accounting in a multinational company required
  • Certified Public Accountant is preferred
  • Knowledge of SAP (or other large ERP) is preferred
  • Proficiency with data visualization tools such as Tableau, Power BI, and Google Analytics is a plus
  • Excellent ability to analyze problems, think critically for solutions
  • Strong fundamental accounting knowledge
  • Ability to build and develop strong teams
  • Excellent communication and project management skills
  • Ability to handle ambiguity effectively, oversee multiple projects at once follow-through on commitments
  • Ability to work productively in a dynamic environment and solutions-oriented
  • Must be willing/able to work onsite 2-3 days/week in Sunnyvale, CA
Determining compensation for this role (and others) at Vaco depends upon a wide array of factors including but not limited to the individual’s skill sets, experience and training, licensure and certifications, office location and other geographic considerations, as well as other business and organizational needs. With that said, as required by local law, Vaco believes that the following salary range reasonably estimates the base compensation for an individual hired into this position in geographies that require salary range disclosure: $130,000-$175,000. The individual may also be eligible for discretionary bonuses.
