JOB DESCRIPTION:  
  • Ensure the department provides accurate and timely financial reporting to Clients and management:
  • Prepare, review and present monthly, quarterly, and annual financials to Clients as prepared by a team consisting of the Assistant Controller and six property accountants.
  • Establish and communicate financial metrics and key performance indicators to senior management.
  • Monitor Client’s cash positions on a daily basis (various bank portals) Compile relevant management financial reports that provide dashboard indicators of Client’s cash flow status.
  • Performs monthly review of financial statements for all entities and assists in preparation of Client’s tax returns, coordinate efforts with outside CPA.
  • Protects assets by establishing, monitoring, and enforcing internal controls. Monitors and confirms financial condition by conducting audits, providing information to external auditors.
  • Oversee all accounting activities including processing Client Distributions, performing A/P reviews, A/R reviews and supervise accounting staff during all bank reconciliations.
  • Provides accounting support for properties including performing accounting software ledger corrections, transfers, and difficult move-outs or handling random ledger exceptions.
  • Assess the financial infrastructure, identifying priorities to update, improve or optimize processes, systems and controls for increased efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Conducts all business in accordance with company policies and procedures, Fair Housing, Fair Credit Reporting Act, and all other applicable laws.
  • Provide robust cross-departmental transaction support and partnership:
  • Build strong relationships with cross department leaders to ensure strong communication and best in class support.
  • Provide transaction support including due diligence, onboarding of new clients, integration planning and post-close activities to assure that accounting considerations are understood and planned for.
  • Assists in preparing budgets and forecasts. Monitors and investigates budget variances.
  • Participate in the development of and support the Company’s strategic plans.
  • Partner with CEO and CFO to oversee Company’s IT infrastructure and outsourced Network Managed Services provider.
  • Oversee relationship with main accounting software provider – Real Page.
  • Department Leadership
  • Build a strong bench by hiring, training, managing and motivating staff into high performing teams.
  • Set clear vision and expectations for the team; leverage strengths of the individual team members and clarify roles and responsibilities where needed.
  • Assess staffing models to ensure the department structure continually meets the Company’s objectives.
  • Preparation of employee annual performance and merit reviews
  • Mentor, support and coach – lead by example.
  • Continually focus on training and development programs for the team to cultivate “best” and “brightest” talent within the industry.

This position works closely with our on-site Property Managers, Multifamily Regional Managers, President-Multifamily and Director of Marketing.

 

Externally this position works directly with Clients or Client representatives as well as Bank representatives.

 

JOB REQUIREMENTS:
  • Education/Experience: Requires a minimum of a Bachelor or Master’s degree in Accounting or business and at least 10 years of experience in real estate or in a related area (with five years in a managerial position).

 

·      Language Ability: Effective oral and written communication skills with customers, coworkers and management. Ability to read and comprehend reports and invoices. Ability to write basic correspondence.

 

·      Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

·      Computer Skills: Must have excellent computer skills including strong knowledge of Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel. Strong knowledge of Real Page, Yardi and/or other Real Estate Accounting software preferred.

 

·      Mathematical Skills: Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, bonuses, proportions, percentages. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, and proportions to practical situations.

Determining compensation for this role (and others) at Vaco depends upon a wide array of factors including but not limited to the individual’s skill sets, experience and training, licensure and certifications, office location and other geographic considerations, as well as other business and organizational needs. With that said, as required by local law, Vaco believes that the following salary range reasonably estimates the base compensation for an individual hired into this position in geographies that require salary range disclosure: $160,000-$240,000. The individual may also be eligible for discretionary bonuses.
