Established in 2012, our client now has over 250 full-time employees and is expected to continue to grow in the next 3-5 years. The brand has a strong e-commerce presence and sells 90% of its product online, which is shipped from its corporate warehouse located in Fairfield, CA.
LOCATION: The Company has opened a new corporate office in Walnut Creek right by Pleasant Hill Bart. This will be a hybrid position (since you have a direct report staff accountant who comes into the office) with the requirement to come into the office 2-3 days a week with flexibility on start and end time.

This position requires multi-tasking, preparation of financial statements, flux analysis, reconciliations, external audit management for the company’s financial statements and the 401k Plan, month-end close management, forecast and budget ownership for select accounts, corporate finance, and internal controls.

Roles and responsibilities:
- Manage the month-end close process, including preparation of monthly financial statements in accordance with GAAP by the 15th of the following month except for year-end. The year-end financial statements should be completed by 30th day following year-end
- Establish an allowance for sales returns based on historical trends
- Manage the cadence and timeline around the month-end close ensuring that all closing journal entries are timely recorded and all close management controls are documented and performed effectively.
- Oversee the reconciliation and preparation or review of all balance sheet accounts and supporting schedules, as well as the monthly certification of all reconciliations. Create or build out reconciliations as needed for those that are new or previously non-existent.
- Management of annual audit and act as primary liaison with independent auditors
- Management of annual audit of the financial statements for the Company’s 401k Plan
- Reconciliation and preparation of supporting schedules for all accrued expenses outside of accounts payable
- Reconciliation of customer deposits --Reconciliation of gross profit to the general ledger
- Reconciliation and posting of deferred rent
- Reconciliation of complex balance sheet accounts: customer deposits (deferred revenue), gift card liability, certain reserves, and certain inventory-related accounts
- Manage accounting implementations and enhancements as needed to support operational and strategic needs of the business, including but not limited to: implementation of ASC 842, Leases, gift card breakage accrual and historical analysis, loyalty program accounting, WMS platform implementation, customer returns integration of 3rd party returns platform with ERP, as well as various NetSuite enhancements and workflows around bill approval, bill payment, vendor set up/on-boarding, JE approval
- Act as Accounting lean on annual physical inventory. Develop reconciliation of annual physical counts to on-hand stock ledger
- Support development/implementation of accounting methodology for accrual of inventory reserves including obsolescence and shrink reserves. Develop historical analysis necessary to support key assumptions
- Support management of day to day cashflow
- Assistance with Sales Tax filing through Avalara/Avatax
- Liaise with 3rd party tax consultants on all indirect tax matters
- Partner with Corporate Finance annually to develop budget.
- Preparation of budgets and forecasts for select GL accounts
- Comparison of actual results to budget forecast and reporting results and analysis to upper level management
- Detailed flux analysis of balance sheet at line-item level on a monthly basis
- Implement monthly capex tracking process vs budget in NetSuite and oversee deployment of in process assets into service monthly
- Work with 3rd party risk management and insurance brokerage partner on annual policy renewals
- Prepare quarterly and annual debt covenants
Qualifications:
- Prior experience in a management or oversight role
- Bachelor’s Degree is required, CPA highly preferred
- Extensive knowledge of GAAP and SOX compliance/ICFR
- Previous experience in E-Commerce and Public Accounting is preferred
- Must possess strong interpersonal skills, communicating professionally with others
- Should work well in a team environment, as well as on their own with minimal supervision
